Placido Domingo Sang In One of the Most Poorest Neighborhoods in Colombia
“I feel like I’m in a fortress beneath the Walled City” Said the Spanish Tenor when he arrived to Cartagena de Indias, Colombia - as he’s going to give a concert this Saturday in the city but in the meantime he took a moment of his time and went to one of the most depressed projects in the entire country, the neighborhood of Nelson Mandela.
The Orchestra of the Young of Nelson Mandela received the Spanish Tenor to the music of African-Colombian composer Crescencio Salcedo “La Mucura” (Eng. Trans. The Jar). The Tenor was presented by the Mayor Judith Pinedo who expressed her joy to have the tenor in the city and she presented to the tenor The Orchestra of the Young and the community of Nelson Mandela.
“Music it’s the best of life” Said the Tenor, who also expressed the importance of music in everyday and for those who choose music as a way of life. The violinists Marcela Gomez, Jessica Castaño and Luisa Cosio among others enchanted the tenor with their grace and spontaneity when playing the violin; the chorus sang “Bonaventura” and Placido delighted the crowd with “Besame Mucho” at the end of the event.
