Beggars
Beggars
By: Gus Lequerica
I been looking closely to a phenomenon that is practically absent in the United States but I have seen in more in the last two years “begging”. So I move from one place that had the begging problem because it was an undeveloped country to a developed country where the beggars are extremely aggressive compared to the ones I left behind. I’m accustomed to beggars I know how to deal with them but I see many people don’t know how to handle them and they can be extremely rude when they take a no for answer and much of the time the beggars are delinquents and people aren’t aware of that because sometimes they can’t see the malice of these gents. Sorry if I sound like a big son of a bitch but I can’t trust any beggar after what I have live.
Today when I went to fuel my car at the Hess that is on Lumsden Avenue I parked behind on a pump where two men were chatting, one of them was putting fuel in a container and the other was chatting, I didn’t pay attention to their chat but I saw that the elder individual was writing down a number; when I was about to reach the ten dollar mark the individual approached to me very closely, my first thought was I was going to be mugged so I jumped away from the guy and the gas hose fell to the floor spilling some gasoline; the man said that if I had some spare change I said no, then he said he pay for my gasoline if I took him home; fuck, what home? I’m not dumb to put a stranger in my car especially after I was drugged near a supermarket when I was little; the worse was one the beggar started to cry to take him home and people started to murmur about the scenario, without saying anything I ended abruptly putting the gas and took my car and I left; I don’t give a damn about that guy because here in the States if you are a beggar there are plenty of ways to get help without recurring to begging and as I said I can sound like a son of a bitch but after being a victim because I was trying to help a beggar and knowing other people close to me as well who went victims I don’t care about the beggars, they can cry and insult me and I won’t care as they can talk to my hand or next time I will call the cops in the spot.
And as conclusion I know the economical situation is hard and I had a hard time as my family and I searched for help and I was recursive to find the way to survive and if I an immigrant who is learning the ways of living in the States could do it, a natural person has more advantage than me and can do it more easily than a guy who has 2 years living in the country.
