Actor Reviews: Zachary Quinto

The tall and charming Pennsylvanian actor Zachary Quinto has taken the acting world by storm after his hit debut as the “eating brain” villain Sylar in the hit T.V. shows Heroes, and now he is going to play Spock in the new adaptation of Star Trek by J.J. Abrahams, which by the way is going to be Zachary film debut.

As every actor Zachary had humble beginnings in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he was a member of the Civic Light Opera mini stars when he was a child, his youth was relatively normal as many American teenagers, going to school and doing his favorite activities, Zach graduated from the Central Catholic High School and in 1999 he graduated from the drama school of Carnegie Mellon University.

As soon Zach graduated from Carnegie Mellon, he went to California to pursue his ambitions as every young actor, his first years in Cali were quite difficult, he only landed a few spare guest appearances during his first stints, The Others (the sci-fi short lived series) was his first appearance, then it followed a few more with other notable series as Lizzie McGuire, Off Center, CSI and others, basically most of them were forgettable roles to the audience until his appearance in FOX smash hit 24 as computer geek Adam Kaufman where the public met Zach at a regular basis.

After his work in 24, Zachary landed other guest spots until he was cast as a regular in Tori Spelling failed “reality” sitcom So Notorious where Zach got his break as Tori’s best gay friend forever Sasan, but So Notorious didn’t go through a second season even with all the critical acclaim it had and the positive reaction of the public, the show wasn’t good enough and it was ended on May of that year (2006), but success wasn’t that far away that same year he joined as the serial killer Sylar in the television show Heroes, and that was the moment he gained national attention by playing the famous anti-hero.

And now as 2008 he is currently filming the scenes for the Star Trek new movie where is going to play young Spock, (is interesting to note the resemblance of Zachary and Leonard Nimoy, they look so similar with the prosthetic makeup) along with new comer Chris Pine as young captain James Tiberius Kirk; there is no much information around the net about the new Star Trek because of the heavy security that rounded the filming process.

As a conclusion we have to wait what time and hard work brings to Zach, because he surely has a promising future in the acting world, as every of his performances captivates the audiences and his fans would likely to see more about this brilliant actor.

The Photography of Joe Quinto

Joe Quinto is a photographer based in Los Angeles, California, where he specializes in Portraits, Music and Fashion photography. His work have a touch of expressionism mixed with some urban elements is quite interesting the vision he offers, because he can show the mundane with plenty of glamour, and the glamour of entertaining with a sprinkle of the common living.

In his webpage joequinto.com there is his work, a unique mix of photography that is really fun to watch, as the reason is there a unique blend of people that appeared in front of his lent, one of those photos that I really liked is in the portrait section, a mechanic named Miguelito, the color palette is appealing it looks like a paint, but it brings me a nostalgia factor found in the Andy Warhol work, where the use of vibrant color made a contrast with interesting characters, not only superstars but people from the folk.

The music section, is one of the most interesting subjects ever such as Queens of the Stone Age,  guys from Mudvayne, musician Val Emmich and many others, where they pose more relaxed and naturally and the viewers can see a human facet of their favorite idols; the other section that is really cool to see the one named Alive, where there are live photos of concerts and the composition is quite unique.

Due copyrights issues, I cannot post any photos of Joe here in this entry, but if you click here you can go to his webpage and enjoy is fantastic work.

The Jazzy tunes of Singingkid

Greg or Singingkid is a Canadian actor and musician with a great and smooth voice that can go with almost any single tune, he is probably best known in youtube for his rendition of Nat King Cole song The Christmas Song with almost 20.000 views and his rendition of Bang Bang (My Baby Shot me Down) which he gives a classical blues interpretation and his voice goes with the song as the waves flow with the sea.

He is one of the youtube talents such as Nick Pitera that is worth to support, as he gives a great interpretation to his songs. His style is eclectic, to classify him in one genre is difficult because he goes with different types of music, I highly recommend listening to Singingkid and here are a few samples of his videos, the best aspect of Greg is that he always answers to his fans, any comment you leave on his videos he will answer it.

Let support Greg and let’s support the real Indy talent that is on the net, by leaving comments on their website and helping them with their future projects.

The Art of The Time Devourer

Dan Lequerica or The Time Devourer as he is known best in the world of deviantart.com is one of the new promising artist in world of art, his style is eclectic and he has a wide range of what he can paints, he is an excellent portrayer but also an amazing individual at the moment of creating conceptual digital art, is almost difficult to describe Time Devourer’s art into one genre because of his constant evolution.

Most of his works contain existentialist, mythological, absurd and realistic elements that expose the complexity of humanity trough a brush or a pixel, but they expose how difficult human beings are, one of those examples is the work entitled The Glitter of the Sorrowful which shows that even in the brightest and beautiful moments filled with color, we can see everything in gray and feel lonely and detached from the rest of humanity. Breaking the fourth wall, this one is one of my favorite pieces of this new artist, because of the contrast of color and the deep message of the work.

But who is The Time Devourer?, he is a young artist, Colombian-born who lives in Brandon, Florida; he studied graphic design in La Universidad de Bogota Jorge Tadeo Lozano, Seccional Caribe, in Cartagena de Indias, he moved to the States a few years ago to be close to his family; his favorite artists are Marcel Duchamp, Salvador Dali Bo Herno and Hirohiko Araki.

If you want to support The Time Devourer’s art, you can click here and leave a comment, remember that a click is a support for culture, and you can comment with him and he will response your messages.

Ivri Lider

With his sexy voice and sweet ballads, Israeli born singer Ivri Lider is on the go to conquer the international music market, so far so now he is considered one of the top Israeli singers, winner of numerous awards in Israel such as the “Male Singer of the Year, and the sales of his albums surpass the 200.000 copies.

Ivri’s musical genres go from pop music trough adult contemporary songs; one of those adult contemporary songs that hit on the States was Jesse, a song that spoke about a impossible love with a boy, yes that is true as you read it, Ivri is one of the few openly gay musicians from Israel that have found success in the common market, you probably are thinking right now how a gay musician can appeal in a country with certain issues toward gay men?, the answer is simple, people have more open attitudes today, and a new generation has accepted Ivri as one of the most influential individuals of their time because his lyrics represent this generation struggles.

His lyrics are quite catchy, and his melodic voice grabs the attention of any one, in Israel he has been for over a decade and had build a solid career in his home country, but as every musician in the market he expanded his horizons to the more volatile American market, but if he succeed he can break more easily to the international musical market, so far so now he had achieved some moderately success in North America thank to television channel LOGO who at the beginning of the year 2008 played his music video Jesse for several weeks and OUT magazine recognized him as one of the OUT 100 in the year 2007 as one of the most influential gay men.

We just keep to wait to see if Ivri success grows more beyond a small segmented market.

Lindsay and Sam the Next Ellen and Portia?

My answer is no, they are not the next big gay couple, even is a miracle they are on the news or on Perez Hilton blog, I guess he finds them funny or lame, I don’t know… I think is because people find funny their antics, and they are just a simple resource to sell more, I think nobody really cares what Lindsay Lohan does except if you want to read about her life and laugh about it.

I assume people are talking about Lindsay and her “girlfriend” Samantha Ronson is mostly due their tabloid exposed life and because she was once a celebrity who could act and sing and because she had a high profile dating life, but maybe all of that was only a façade… I guess to describe Lindsay is way more complicated than I thought, but one conclusion I could get is that she is not an icon and she is not going to be someone in the Gay and Lesbian community as the reason she don’t give anything to the community, and even this so called relation looks more like a publicity trick than anything else. Hilary Duff in other hand has been doing some good work lately.

There is no way Lindsay Lohan is the next Ellen Degeneres, Lindsay looks like a lesbian by convenience, she looks like enjoy all the attention by being a lesbian as her career is dead, and when you ask about her relations with Sam she will evade the question as soon as possible, Lindsay have to know that when you become a public figure your life belongs to the public, still you can have your privacy but since you become a center of opinion you have to give a good explanation of your acts since your career belongs to the community .

What about Sam?, is she the next Portia, hell no!, she is to obnoxious and apathetic to become the next Portia, she is even rude to almost anyone who ask anything to her, and she don’t have the grace and elegance Miss DeRosi have.

I don’t remember who was the one that said this ultra tomb duo were going to be the next Ellen and the next Portia, but I know that individual made a huge mistake saying that.

Miss Sinister

A new character introduced soon after the death of Mister Sinister, at first we thought that maybe Miss Sinister (or Claudine Renko as she used that name in Original Sin #1 and #2) was only a pastiche of the original product, but even after her short debut Miss Sinister had proven to be a character of her own rather another version of the original counterpart.Still being a new character to the Marvel Universe, we can’t assume too much about her or speculate about her past, the only real thing we can know is that she was involved with Mister Sinister as Xavier and Shawn, we can’t even assume she is a clone or the next reincarnation of the original villain because her powers as personality are completely the opposite, as even she expressed to have a name, but we can’t assume that Claudine is that her real name as the reason the character is not fully developed yet

The character looks really promising, as the reason I said previously she is not Mister Sinister with a corset and that is what she is so interesting. As Original Sin is on, we have shown that Miss Sinister is quite manipulative, she is not afraid to use her sensuality as a weapon and she seems to be attracted to Daken (Wolverine son) and I don’t think Mister Sinister was bisexual… maybe I am heading too far with the possible ideas about who is Miss Sinister, maybe we can compare her to X-23   if she is a clone of Mister Sinister, since X-23 evolved differently from Wolverine.

So at the end we have to wait, what ideas the group of writer implement to Miss Sinister and what past they are going to give to her.

The Skrull’s Among Us

Reading Marvel’s Secret Invasion Arc, I been wondering oh could it be if the Skrulls were real?, in a trip to my comic book store (The Comic Book Club) I saw a drawing made by a fan of Michael Bendis work, and it was a drawing of Dick Chenney revealed that it was a Skrull in disguise, I guess if Dick Chenney was a Skrull that could explain a lot of things… and if George W. was a Skrull, I guess that couldn’t explain many of his Bushisms because the Skrulls are far away more intelligent… Maybe W. is a inhuman.

But thinking clearly, if the universe were similar as the Marvel 616 universe, many of us would be in interesting and deadly adventures as the 616 characters and probably we will meet extraterrestrial life forms every single week such as the Skrulls, so how society could be if we have aliens among us?, not living in secrecy but in public as human beings. Probably Society will be different, not only at a genetic level but technology and politics also, but at the same time there could be many problems as adaptation and acceptation, is interesting to compare fiction with reality and see that humanity hasn’t evolved too much with human rights even with all the advances.

If we had Skrulls among us, there would be the new immigrants and they would face every issue the immigrant community had, the racism, the religious intolerance, the bigotry and the obstacles to become someone in this planet, because most of the humanity is mind closed to new things, we are fearful creatures after all, and every night we go to our caves to wait the next day, or in a more controversial example, intolerance for sexual diversity, the Skrulls are intersexual by nature, metamorphoses who change gender at will to adapt themselves to new situations, imagine all the hate from homophobic individuals who will see them as a threat for any given reason, even if today we can’t stand gay or lesbian relations.

I guess we aren’t prepared for big changes, and if this universe was similar to 616 universe from Marvel, we couldn’t be prepared for all the experiences those fictional characters live day by day.

Marvel Zombies 3: When Zombies Invade 616

Not as good as the first’s installments in terms of drawing, but it promise to be a good conclusion to the Zombies Saga. The idea of a virus that can turns anyone into a zombie, had been used several times but we have to admit that with Marvel Zombies is a cool concept and a concept that had been referenced in other Marvel works such as the newly NYX, which Bobby Soul a.k.a. Felon says something about a plague that came from space and can turn people into zombies, I don’t think we are going to see a crossover, but we can take that comment as a meta reference joke.

Fanatics of the Zombie Saga had complained that the third installment lacks of gore and blood that was the main characteristic of the first two part of the saga, but nobody has said that Zombies 3 is more action oriented rather than gore and horror, and that is has several reference to horror cinema; according to Wikipedia the covers are going to be based on movie posters, the first one who is already on the market shows machine man in a Ash pose similar as the Army of Darkness poster and the list goes on.

In the first issue, we are introduced to Florida Imitative team which is composed by Siege, Jennifer Kale, Wundarr and the Conquistador which they discover a strange anomaly in Citrus Ville, Florida where it’s said that a verge on every dimension is connected in the swamps of that city, for the surprise of the team they discover some zombies, and a zombie movie they are the first to perish even with all their powers, except for Wundarr and Jennifer Kale who are the last ones to survive.

I am not going to say too much because I will ruin the first issue by saying major spoilers, but I guess it’s worth the reading, I can’t complain the lack of gore because the script so far so now is really good, and if you want to know how the zombie saga possibly ends, this is a must reading material.

SNL: Still Funny?, Still Groundbreaking?

I don’t think so, before the elections, and after Tina Fey left the show started to crumble (again) in terms of writing, beside the weekend update and the political sketches, the show is not funny we could saw it with the Kate Perry sketch and the Andy Samberg parody of Marky Mark, who was probably the lamest sketch of all season, I was thinking “how they let this thing to be aired?, is extremely lame, and if they want to poke fun at Mark Walhberg there were better ways to do it instead of a poor parody of talking to  animals”, what happened to show who was groundbreaking?, what is happening to one of the best institutions of television?, a show that has been on T.V. for almost 40 years, I don’t know, even I am a fan of the show, but I feel the time of SNL has come to an end if drastic measure aren’t taken.

I can bet people are watching SNL just to see if Tina Fey appears, not even SNL alumni as great comedian Keenan Thompson are shown on a regular basis (he is funny, more than Seth Meyers) he can be the next big star of SNL, but I guess Seth Meyer writing direction is creating a down spiral of one of the best shows of television… and that segment of Kristen Wiig impersonating Kate Perry, was painful to watch she is more funny than that, and she deserves a better written pieces, she is going to be so far the only lady of SNL cast next year.

If SNL keep with the same style that is now, is not going to pass after the elections because the strong material of this season is based on a political humor that will end after November the second, and after November we will know that Tina Fey is not going to reprise her role as “sexy” Governor Sarah Palin and is well know that many people are watching the show just because of Tina Fey.

Obama and McCain Excellent Adventures

Published by glequericac under Comic Analisis Edit This

My opinion about this comic book, is that is offensive and exaggerated and is clearly that the authors exaggerated on how Obama is shown and they over exaggerated McCain failures, as a journalist I can say that comic book is completely yellow and a dirty way to boost sales and is untrue to almost every fact of the careers of both candidates; even to show third persons as Rudy Giuliani as a monster.

I had the opportunity to grab one of the issues at my local comic book store, at first I thought that is a cool but when I started to reading I thought that it was a complete waste of time because clearly the writer are side with Obama and they not show a McCain in a positive light, (I did not buy it, I only took a look before writing this article), as a writer myself, I am kind of disappointed with this comic book because the idea is really good but it got lost on the process, you can see the artist tried to show in a fun way the biographies of the candidates but during creativity process they went more on fiction rather than actual information.

Is not much I can say about this comic because I believe if you are going to make a negative critique, the best is to keep silence. If you want to buy and see what I all this about don’t do it, it’s not worth it.

The Scariest Places on Earth Vs Ghosts Hunters

All my life I’ve been a fanatic of what is called Paranormal Television, there been many shows on television over the past years and after the success of the first part of The Blair Witch Project, many television stations had emulated the format of the movie over the years.

In the past years thanks to the Sci-Fi channel we had seen some of the best shows, they are like short films, and they are fun to watch but how real are they?, the answer I wish to know it, but you can bet for sure that every single of those shows the producers had put their Midas touch to make the show more profitable with the audiences. Two of those shows that had marked a hit on Sci-Fi television are Ghost Hunters and The Scariest Places on Earth
